New Mexico State Alignments and SBA Preparation

For educators in the state of New Mexico, Kid’s College curriculum is aligned to New Mexico standards. Each assessment item in the Kid’s College program is correlated to one of the objectives outlined by the New Mexico Department of Education’s Course of Study. Through practicing these state aligned assessment items, New Mexico students work toward mastery of skills sets tested on the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment (SBA).

Students can login to Kid’s College for skills practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. With online availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, skills practice and test preparation can take place in the classroom, from home before and after school, even over the summer to promote skills retention.

Administrators and teachers can also login anywhere, at any time, to manage Kid’s College curriculum and data reporting. Weekly auto-emailed data reports easily identify student skills gaps and keep teachers up-to-date on mastery or non-mastery of those skills gaps by your students, so you can plan instruction throughout the school year in preparation for standardized testing and reaching the objectives set forth in the New Mexico Course of Study for your grade level and subject.

Each Kid’s College assessment item is presented in a multiple choice format that is consistent with what students see on the SBA. Kid’s College can be configured to provide educational hints when a student does not answer a question correctly on the first attempt, in order to help facilitate learning. Teachers and administrators can choose whether to display or suppress educational hints.

Once you’ve selected Kid’s College as your educational solution for intervention and test preparation, your school will receive a professional development package with login codes, complete instructions for accessing the program and best practices for utilizing Kid’s College data reports to the fullest potential. Telephone, web conferencing and in-house training are also available.

1. State Aligned Content – Kid’s College curriculum is directly aligned to New Mexico standards, so students are practicing the skills sets they need to do well on the SBA.
2. Skills Gap Identifier Reports – Kid’s College easily identifies student skills gaps and monitors progress as students work toward mastery of those skills. Reports help teachers target instruction.
3. Adaptive Technology – Kid’s College utilizes adaptive technology which automatically adjusts curriculum to remediate or accelerate each student based on his/her individual needs.
4. Self-Paced – Students can work at their own pace in privacy when using Kid’s College. There’s no risk of being embarrassed if they don’t know a correct answer on the first attempt or if they are working at a different level than their classmates.
5. Educational Hints – To facilitate learning, teachers can enable educational hints to display if a student does not know the correct answer on the first attempt.
6. Customized Instructional Workbooks – For each student, Kid’s College generates a customized instructional workbook containing extra practice on skills sets not yet mastered by the student.
7. Web Accessible – With Kid’s College, skills practice is possible anywhere a student has an Internet connection.
8. Practice Test Format – Kid’s College assessment items are presented in a format that is consistent with what students see on the SBA.
9. Motivating Sports Games – In Kid’s College, students are rewarded for correct answers on assessment items by brief playing time in their favorite sports video game. Positive reinforcement motivates students to practice more questions and strive to answer correctly.
10. Parent Involvement – Parents can easily support learning on their home computer using Kid’s College. Teachers can elect for parents to receive progress reports for their children via email.
